Abutment

An abutment is a small connector that links a dental implant (the screw in the jawbone) to the final crown, bridge, or denture. It is attached to the implant after healing and sticks out above the gumline. The crown or prosthesis is then fixed on top of it for chewing and aesthetics. Abutments can be stock (pre-made) or custom-made. They are necessary in every implant case, because they connect the implant to the final tooth.
